Boys + Books + Coffee = Men

The other day I gathered around a table with 2 friends, a coffee, and an idea. To get together once a week, read a book, and talk. Now I know to most people this is nothing new. Oprah has done it for years. People around the world do it every day. You see the big thing is I hate to read. I mean I have not actually finished a book for pleasure…ever…like forever ever. I saw this as a challenge. A challenge to finish something. You see that is the difference between boys and men. Men finish what they start. They keep their word. So this was my word – to finish a book. That was this Monday. The book ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. I’ll keep you posted on if I make the step from a boy to a man.

MattyJ – Is it the reading? Is it the daunting discipline of working towards completion? Is it… ?

Hey, do you have the same issues with the “Big Book”? Hope not. But very interested in your feelings about Scripture.

Scripture is easy. One chapter is very short, and with a book that BIG I know I will never finish it in a week – and I’m okay with that.

The problem with other books are if I really like them they inspire me to do stuff, and then I just stop reading and start doing.
